Make your own CBD Edibles
People who seek relief from the various effects of their own personal circumstances, may tailor their daily CBD intake to their own preferences through the creation of CBD rich edibles. Hemp or Hemp Extract infused Butter or Coconut Oil are very often ingredients used in various decadent edible recipes such as CBD rich cookies or chocolate brownies for example, but ultimately their use will depend on the cook, and his or her own dietary needs.
CBD rich Butter or Coconut Oil can be created in several ways, and if you are lucky enough to have access to a good quality Full Spectrum Hemp Extract (which are unfortunately increasingly hard to get hold of these days) the process really is nice and simple. Simply melt your chosen Butter or Coconut Oil into a bowl, add an (optional) few teaspoons of Sunflower Lecithin, and then gently stir in your desired amount of extract until it is all fully dissolved, and you are ready to go!
Your CBD rich butter or Coconut Oil can then be used in practically any recipe that calls for regular Butter or Coconut Oil simply by substituting each ingredient in equal measure.
There is also another slightly cheaper and less effective way of doing it, however. This is called the ‘extraction’ method, whereby the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids are all extracted directly from the Hemp plant itself.
Loose Hemp itself can also be quite hard to get hold of these days, it seems. However, if you are making actual Hemp infused Butter or Coconut Oil, then the process that you will need to go through will take quite a bit longer. The key thing to remember here is “low and slow” (eg, low temperature and slow cook time), as infusing over low heat for several hours will allow for full extraction of the CBD without scorching the Coconut Oil, Butter or Herb.
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is an excellent choice for this particular extraction method, but if you don’t like the taste of Coconut at all, then you can always use a refined Coconut Oil instead. Also, any kind of Butter – but not margarine – can be used (although most recipes will call for unsalted). We find that using a high-quality, organic Butter will tend to provide slightly better results.
Cannabinoids, specifically CBD and THC, exist in acidic and activated forms. In the hemp plant, these cannabinoids exist almost entirely in the acidic forms known as CBDa and THCa. When heated, these acidic forms undergo a chemical reaction converting the CBDa to CBD and THCa to THC. Because this method of extracting CBD from Hemp uses a very low heat, it is sometimes recommended that you also decarboxylate first to activate it.
if you do wish to decarboxylate your Hemp first, then you should remove all of the stalks before placing it onto a foil lined baking tray, then cover everything over with foil again, and place into a preheated oven for approx 40 minutes at 115C. However, we think that if you will be using your Hemp infused Butter or Coconut Oil to bake with for at least 30 minutes or so afterwards, you should be able to safely ignore this stage!

Direct Extraction Method Instructions
Continue to cook over a low heat (the mixture should never boil but simply simmer) for 6-8 hours, remembering every 30 minutes or so to stir gently. Also every 2 hours or so you will need to remove the bowl from the pan and refill the simmering water back up to the halfway mark. This is to stop the pan from boiling dry.
After the 6-8 hours are up, and while the mixture is cooling, cover the metal strainer or colander with the several layers of cheesecloth (being sure to allow a few extra inches of overhang). When the mixture is safe to handle, pour it through the colander / strainer, pressing down on it gently with either a wooden or metal spoon, allowing the strained Butter or Coconut Oil to drain through into the fresh, clean glass bowl. With gloved hands then bring together the corners of the cheesecloth, and twist tightly to squeeze out any remaining Butter or Coconut Oil. You can then safely discard what remains of the Hemp.
If you have used Coconut Oil then finally transfer it over into the pint glass jar with secure lid. Then place either the bowl or the pint glass in the fridge and leave it overnight. In the morning you will find everything has all nicely solidified.
After the Butter has solidified, you will still need to remove it from the water. To do this run a knife around the edges to separate the Butter from the bowl, and then cut a small piece from the edge (but large enough to fit the knife under). Carefully lift the Butter layer and place it wet side up on a plate or a cutting board, and then dab off any excess water with a dry clean cloth.

Laboratory Testing
Third party laboratories analyze all of our hemp for cannabinoid potency, heavy metals, bacterial / microbial life, mycotoxins, and pesticides. All oils, extracts and isolate will have been tested for potency, heavy metals, and pesticides. Certificates of Analysis (COA’s) for individual products are also available to be viewed and can be found here.
Dosage
The fact remains that everyone is in a different place and will react differently to CBD. A serving size or dosage of CBD will differ for each person. It is best to start small and then gradually increase until you experience the desired result. However, it is now generally recommended that a healthy adult should not exceed a maximum dosage of 10mg per day on average.
